Trauma

A practical way to think about trauma triggers

Triggers are cues, not commands

A trigger is a cue that the nervous system associates with danger or overwhelm. It may be a sound, a place, a bodily sensation, or a particular kind of interaction.

A practical treatment approach helps people notice the cue, understand the response, and build a larger set of options. The goal is not to erase every difficult reaction but to create more choice in how to respond.
